In order to promote the technical as well as the scientific knowledge of the job holders, mainly those who are working as low-skilled or semi-skilled laborers in different sectors of the economy, the University of Applied Science and Technology (UAST) was established in 1992 with the objective to call on all the entities concerned in both public and private sectors to train and educate specialized manpower required by the economic, political, social, cultural and industrial sectors of the country.
Prior to the establishment of UAST, different institutions, organizations, ministries and service/manufacturing companies held various training courses in order to educate their employees and to achieve their required goals. However, most of these courses had non-official certificates, non-standard training and curriculum, low competition, lack of comprehensive education and finally they were all high in cost and low in efficiency. Another problem of this type of training and education was that the gap between the training courses and the real requirements of the industry continued to widen and the dilemma remained unsolved. The reason behind UAST's establishment was to create a sense of unity and conformity in Technical and Vocational Education at post-high school level. At the same time, UAST's goal was to produce skilled manpower needed for the successful implementation of national development plans that would contribute to the socio-economic prosperity of Iran in general. At UAST, training courses and classes are held in the vicinity of the industrial and economic installation and they make use of the experts of the industry. In other words, the UAST is a Technical/Vocational University in which its graduates, after finishing their theoretical and practical degree, can immediately assume responsibility in the capacity of an educated and skilled person in the field of their studies. |
